Bailey, James (Anthony) (1847–1906) showman; born in Detroit, Mich. Proprietor of Cooper & Bailey (1872–81), he took that circus on a world tour, then combined forces with chief rival P. T. Barnum to form Barnum and Bailey's circus (1881–1906).
