Baker, Oliver (Edwin) (1883–1949) geographer; born in Tiffin, Ohio. Much of his career was spent with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (1912–42). In 1942 he began the department of geography at the University of Maryland. He was the authority on agricultural land utilization in North America; he also had a keen interest in China. He is especially noted for the Atlas of World Agriculture (1917), which he coauthored with V. C. Finch. How to thank TFD for its existence?
