Bakhshiev, Mishi Iusupovich 

Born Nov. 7, 1910, in Derbent. Tat Soviet writer. Writes in the Tat and Russian languages.

Bakhshiev graduated from the Moscow Institute of Land Management (1936). He participated in the Great Patriotic War. Bakhshiev’s first novella, Toward a New Life (1932), marked the beginning of the development of Tat prose. Bakhshiev was the author of the collections of poems About the Komsomol (1933) and Fruits of October (1933), the dramas A Hero’s Victory (1936) and Earth (1940), the musical comedy Shah Abbas and a Carrier (1940), stories, and essays. Bakhshiev was the author of the first novel in Tat, Cluster of Grapes (1962–63). He translated the works of A. S. Pushkin, M. Iu. Lermontov, and Nizami. Bakhshiev was awarded three orders as well as medals.
