Balanovo Burial Site
an archaeological site dating from the second millennium B. C. near the village of Balanovo, in the Chuvash ASSR. It was excavated between 1933 and 1957. It contains graves without mounds. The skeletons lay in a hunched position on one side. There were also collective graves. Near the skeletons were found round-bottomed clay vessels, bronze implements, stone axes, arrowheads, and so on. The Balanovo burial site belongs to the eastern group of remains of the Fat’ianov culture. Some scholars believe that an independent Balanovo culture existed. REFERENCEBader, O. N.
