Balkanski, Nenko Dimitrov
Born Apr. 2, 1907, in Kazanlyk. Bulgarian painter. Graduated from the Academy of Arts in Sofia (1930), then studied in Paris and Munich. In 1947, Balkanski began to teach at the Academy of Arts in Sofia. (In 1959 he became a professor.) He was one of the first exponents of proletarian art in Bulgaria, and he was a member of the Association of New Artists. His works include Worker’s Family (1936), Georgii Dimitrov in Prison in 1918 (1950), and Housewife (1957), all of which are in the National Art Gallery in Sofia.
