BallycastleTown (pop., 1991: 4,005), district seat of Moyle, Northern Ireland. It is situated along Ballycastle Bay, opposite an island where Scotland's King Robert I is said to have hidden from enemies in a cave. It is a market centre, fishing harbour, and resort. It has a beautiful centre on the rugged North Antrim Coast just outside Ballycastle. Church Bay, the proposed connection point on Rathlin Island, lies 10 kms from Ballycastle on the Antrim coast and 26 kms from the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland. Sea Containers is opening a service between Campbeltown, Scotland and Ballycastle, Northern Ireland in July, 1997 using a ship purchased from the government, the Claymore. |
