banana connector

Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
banana connector
A high-quality plug and socket for speaker cable. The banana plug is pushed into the socket, and the spring-like protrusions on the prong make a snug fit (see cutout on illustration). Five-way binding posts are widely used on high-end audio equipment that can accommodate banana plugs as well as pins, spade lugs and bare wire.

The binding post orientation should be no problem to deal with, although their European spacing arrangement precludes using double banana connectors.
In each case I used double banana connectors, and so it was easy to piggyback the hookups to the back of the speakers.
I suppose this makes a case for banana connectors pushed into the jacks revealed by removing the plastic plugs -- or even bi-wiring, even though a good single wire hookup should sound as good as the latter.
