Banda Aceh
a city in N Indonesia, in N Sumatra; the capital of Aceh region; suffered badly in the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004. Pop.: 154 767 (2000)

Banda Aceh 

or Kutaraja, city in Indonesia, on the northern coast of Sumatra, on the Aceh River. Administrative center of the province of Aceh. Population, 34,000 (1961). Trade center of the agricultural region (copra, pepper). It is connected to the outer harbor of Ule-Lue by rail.
