In southeastern ID; organized Mar 6, 1893 from Bingham County. Name Origin: For the Bannack Indians whose name in Shoshonean means 'hair in backward motion,' for their habit of wearing a lock of hair tossed back over their heads. Early settlers spelled the name 'Bannock,' with an 'o' instead of an 'a'
