Barabash, Iakov Fedorovich
Died 1658. Chief of the Cossacks of the Zaparozhskaia Sech’ in 1657–58. Together with M. Pushkar’, Barabash led a rebellion in the Ukraine at the end of 1657 and in 1658 that was directed against the hetman I. Vygovskii, who tried to separate the Ukraine from Russia and reestablish the rule of the Polish feudal lords. He was captured by Vygovskii and executed. REFERENCEVossoedinenie Ukrainy s Rossiei.
