an urban-type settlement in Vitebsk Oblast, Byelorussian SSR, 9 km from the Orsha railroad junction. Located on the Adrov River (a tributary of the Dnieper).

Population in 1968, 9,700. Baran’s populace works mainly in the enterprises of Orsha.
