Barbari, Jacopo de' (yä`kōpō dā bärbä`rē), c.1440–1516, Germano-Dutch painter and engraver, b. Venice. Barbari was a major link between North European and Italian art; his and Dürer's works reveal a mutual influence. After 1500 he was court painter to rulers in principalities in Germany and the Netherlands, painting portraits, genre genre (zhän`rə), in art-history terminology, a type of painting dealing with unidealized scenes and subjects of everyday life. .....
