Baring, Maurice, 1874–1945, English author. After a career in the diplomatic service, he turned to journalism in 1904. A war correspondent during the Russo-Japanese War, he wrote several books on Russia, including A Year in Russia (1905–6) and The Russian People (1911). In 1919, following service as staff officer in World War I, he began writing novels. His chief books include C (1924), Daphne Adeane (1926), and Tinker's Leave (1927). He also wrote poetry and plays.
