Barisan

Barisan (bärēsän`), volcanic mountain range, c.1,000 mi (1,600 km) long, paralleling the western coast of Sumatra island, Indonesia. It rises to Mt. Kerinci (12,467 ft/3,800 m high). Numerous lakes are found in the mountains, including Toba, the largest in Indonesia.

Barisan 

a mountain range in the south of the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. It is about 650 km long and up to 100 km wide, with a maximum elevation of 3,800 m (Mt. Kerinchi). The range is composed primarily of Paleozoic crystalline schist, quartzite, limestone, granite, and volcanic rock. There are many active and extinct volcanoes in its ridge (Kerinchi, Talang, Kabau, and others). The slopes are strongly dissected by rivers. The climate is moist and tropical, with evergreen forests.
