Barito (bärē`tō), river, c.550 mi (890 km) long, rising in the mountains of central Borneo, Indonesia, and flowing generally S to the Java Sea. Banjarmasin is the head of oceangoing navigation. The wide floodplain of the lower Barito is intensely cultivated and contains one of Indonesia's largest rubber plantations. How to thank TFD for its existence? 1) The Riam Kanan-Martapura area in South Kalimantan held by other companies, 2) The Upper Barito, Sungai Lahung / Gula areas in Central Kalimantan held by the Company's Jangkang and Masupa Ria "B" CoW's, and 3) The Ngabang area in West Kalimantan held by the Company's Landak CoW. The most westerly block lies along the eastern flank of the Barito River where some alluvials were identified as being gold bearing. The Muya structure is located in the Barito Basin, 20 km to the northeast of the Tanjung Oil Field which has produced more than 100 MMBO cumulative. |
