Barnegat Bay (bär`nəgăt), arm of the Atlantic Ocean, c.30 mi (50 km) long, E N.J., inside Long Beach Island and Island Beach Peninsula. | The town's close proximity to Long Beach Island and the Barnegat Bay is an added bonus for residents of the development who enjoy recreational amenities such as swimming, fishing and boating. For the past 10 years, I have sailed a pocket cruiser on New Jersey's Barnegat Bay, and at the end of each sail, I am consistently amazed that I am still alive and that Swee' Pea is unscathed. Barnegat Bay was once a sleepy body of water by the New Jersey shore (see map, right). |
