Each starts from one end of the galaxy's central bar, a pattern seen in many other barred spiral galaxies.
By knowing the shape and orientation of the long stellar bar and by using other barred spiral galaxies as examples, scientists can envision what our galaxy should look like.
I found that I had made some new celestial friends down there, friends like NGC 1360, a beautiful planetary nebula in Fornax with the brightest central star I've ever seen, as well as NGC 1097 and 1365, two spectacular barred spiral galaxies, also in the same constellation.
