Barsukov, Ivan Platonovich
Born Apr. 21 (May 3), 1841, in the village of Barsuki, Tambov Province; died Apr. 14 (27), 1906, in the village of Iarinskoe, Kaliazin District, Tver’ Province. Russian historian and student of early texts. Born into a noble family. Barsukov was the author of historical and biographical works, such as Innokentii, Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna, From Works, Letters and Stories of His Contemporaries (1883) and Count N. N. Murav’ev-Amurskii From His Letters, Official Documents, and Stories of His Contemporaries and Printed Sources (vols. 1–2,1891). Barsukov collected and published the works of Innokentii (I. E. Ven-iaminov), under the title Innokentii’s Work (vols. 1–3, 1886–88). Barsukov’s works contain much valuable information on the domestic, cultural, and political history of Eastern Siberia, the Far East, Kamchatka, the Aleutian Islands, and Alaska and on the history of the Russian Church.
