), in the New Testament, one of the Twelve Apostles, usually identified with Nathanael Nathanael , in the New Testament, disciple mentioned only in St. John's Gospel and plausibly identified with St. Bartholomew...... Click the link for more information. . Nathanael is a given name, Bartholomew an Aramaic patronymic meaning "son of Talmai." Tradition makes N India his missionary field and Armenia the place of his martyrdom by flaying. Bartholomew, Saint(flourished 1st century AD—died traditionally Albanopolis, Armenia; Western feast day August 24; date varies in Eastern churches) One of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. He is mentioned only briefly in the Gospels, and his Hebrew name may have been Nathanael bar Tolmai. By tradition he was a missionary to Ethiopia, Mesopotamia, Parthia (in modern Iran), Lycaonia (in modern Turkey), and Armenia.
