Bartlett, (Edward Lewis) “Bob” (1904–68) public official; born in Seattle, Wash. His family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, soon after his birth. He was a newspaper reporter (1925–33) and a gold miner (1936–39). He was the secretary of Alaska (1939–44) and Alaska's territorial delegate to Congress (1945–59) before becoming one of the new state's first two U.S. Senators (Dem., Alaska; 1959–68). Alaska placed his statue in the U.S. Capitol.
