Bases 

chemical compounds that contain a hydroxyl (OH) group and dissociate in an aqueous solution to form hydroxylions, OH–. Bases are classified as weak (for example, NH4OH) and strong [NaOH or Ca(OH)2] according to their degree of dissociation. Freely water-soluble bases are called alkalies.
