Basma
(also, baisa, paitsza; Turkic, literally “imprint”). (1) A special plate issued as credentials by the Tatar-Mongol khans during the 13th—15th centuries. (2) Thin sheets of metal (usually silver, less often copper or gold) with relief drawing, obtained by pressing. Basma stamping was widespread in Russia from the 13th to the 17th centuries.
