Basseterre

Seaport (pop., 1994 est.: 12,605), Saint Kitts Island. Chief town of Saint Kitts and capital of the federated state of Saint Kitts and Nevis, it lies on the southwestern coast, west of St. John's, Antigua. Founded in 1627, it serves as a depot distributing merchandise to neighbouring islands.
