Battle of Athens State Historic Site Location: 10 miles north of Kahoka on Highway 81, 4 miles east on Highway CC in Clark County. Facilities: 14 basic campsites, 15 electric campsites, picnic sites, picnic shelter, hiking trails, boat ramp, interpretive center. Activities: Camping, fishing, hiking, guided historical tours. Special Features: Site interprets the northernmost battle fought west of the Mississippi River during the Civil War. Union troops defeated the pro-South Missouri State Guard here in 1861.
