Bay City Recreation Area Location: In Bay County, north of Bay City, 5 miles east of I-75 Exit 168 (Beaver Road). Facilities: 193 modern campsites, mini-cabins, organization campground, picnic areas (é), 5 shelters (é), 3-acre enclosed playground (é), beach house, fishing pier (é), bicycle trail (3 miles), hiking trails (7 miles), 3 observation towers, boardwalk, viewing platforms, shoreline spotting scopes, visitor center with exhibits, displays, and programs. Activities: Camping, hunting, fishing, ice fishing, swimming, hiking, biking, skating, cross-country skiing, wildlife observation, interpretive programs. Special Features: Situated on the shores of the Saginaw Bay, the park has one of the largest remaining freshwater coastal wetlands on the Great Lakes, the Tobico Marsh. With a mile of sandy shoreline as well as wetland woods, wet meadows, cattail marshes, and oak savannah prairies, the park is an ideal staging area for migratory birds and is known for its outstanding variety of wetland plants and wildlife.
