Beauharnois, Charles de la Boische, marquis de (shärl də lä bwäsh märkē` də bōärnwä`), 1670–1749, French governor of New France (1726–46). Despite the loss (1745) of Louisburg to the British, which led to his replacement, Beauharnois's rule was generally peaceful and prosperous.
