Beaverbrook, William Maxwell Aitken
Born May 25, 1879; died June 9, 1964. English political figure; newspaper magnate; lord (beginning in 1917). Lord Beaverbrook founded and directed an important newspaper company (Beaverbrook Newspapers Ltd.). Using the newspapers that he owned, Lord Beaverbrook played a prominent role in the Conservative Party and the political life of the country. In 1918 and from 1940 to 1945 he was a member of the government. Lord Beaverbrook was head of the English delegation to the Moscow Conference of Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, 1941. A. M.
