Begliarov, Sergei Nikitovich 

Born Aug. 8, 1898, in the village of Verkhnie Akulisy, now in the Nakhichevan’ ASSR; died Apr. 14, 1949, in Ashkhabad.

Begliarov was one of the first Turkmenian painters and an Honored Art Worker of the Turkmen SSR (1939). He studied at the Yerevan Fine and Industrial Arts Technicum under S. Agadzhanian. Begliarov painted portraits and genre pictures devoted to people and everyday life in Soviet Turkmenistan. His works include the graphic series Types of Old Ashkhabad (1920’s), Turkmenian Women (1928), The Loading of the Caravan (1936), and The Horse Route: Ashkhabad-Moscow (1939), as well as landscapes and still lifes, all in the Turkmen State Museum of Fine Arts in Ashkhabad and the Museum of Art of the Peoples of the East in Moscow. Begliarov taught in the Turkmen School of Art (1935–48).
