In south-central TX, northeast of Austin; organized Jan 22, 1850 from Bexar County. Name Origin: For Peter Hansborough Bell (1812-98), governor of TX (1849-53) and U.S. representative from TX (1853-57).

Area (sq mi): 1087.93 (land 1059.72; water 28.21). Pop per sq mi: 241.60.

    On southeastern border of KY, west of Harlan; organized as Josh Bell County Feb 28, 1867 from Knox and Harlan counties; name shortened 1872. Name Origin: For Joshua Fry Bell (1811-70), KY legislator and U.S. representative (1845-47).
