Belogiannis, Nikos 

Bom 1915 in the village of Amalias, Peloponnesos; died Mar. 30, 1952, in Athens. Figure in the Greek workers’ movement.

Belogiannis was the son of an artisan. As a high school student and later as a student at the University of Athens, he participated in the progressive youth movement. In 1934 he joined the Communist Party of Greece (CPG). From 1934 to 1936 he was the organizer and leader of many party organizations in the Peloponnesos. In March and August 1936 he was arrested for his revolutionary activity. In July 1937 he escaped from prison. In May 1938 he was arrested again and sentenced to five years in prison and two years in exile. In September 1943 he escaped from prison. From 1943 to 1944 he was involved in partisan activity in the city of Patrai. He was political commissar of the 3rd Division of the National Liberation Army of Greece. During the civil war (1946–49) he did political work among the soldiers of the Democratic Army of Greece. In 1950 he was elected a member of the Central Committee of the CPG. In December 1950 he was arrested, and in March 1952 he was executed.
