benzyl alcohol [′ben·zəl ′al·kə‚hȯl] (organic chemistry) C6H5CH2OH An alcohol that melts at 15.3°C, boils at 205.8°C, and is soluble in water and readily soluble in alcohol and ether; valued for the esters it forms with acetic, benzoic, and sebacic acids and used in the soap, perfume, and flavor industries.
