Bergeron, Tor 

Born Aug. 15, 1891, in Godstone, England. Swedish meteorologist; student of V. Bjerknes.

Bergeron graduated from the University of Stockholm in 1916.

From 1922 to 1947 he worked in Bergen and Oslo as director of the weather service; from 1947 to 1960 he was a professor at the University of Uppsala. In 1930 and 1932 he worked in the USSR. He has done research on the formation of fronts and cyclones in the atmosphere, has developed studies on air masses and basic ideas of dynamic climatology, and has done research on clouds and precipitation. His discovery of the role of the solid phase in the fall of precipitation from clouds was the theoretical basis for the modern technique of artificial seeding of clouds.
