Beriev, Georgii Mikhailovich
(also G. M. Beriashvili). Born Jan. 31 (Feb. 13), 1903, in Tiflis. Soviet aircraft designer, doctor of technical sciences (1961); major general of the engineering and technical service (1951). Member of the CPSU since 1929. In 1930, Beriev graduated from the Kalinin Leningrad Polytechnical Institute. From 1934 to 1968 he headed the experimental and construction bureau. The MBR-2, MP-1, MDR-5, MBR-7, and Be-6 hydroplanes; the R-l and B-10 jet-powered flying boats; the Be-8 and B-12 amphibious airplanes; the Be-2 and Be-4 ship-based catapult airplanes; and the Be-30 overland passenger aircraft were created under Beriev’s direction. He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1947 and 1968. He has received two Orders of Lenin, two other orders, and medals. V. SHAVROV Want to thank TFD for its existence?
