Berkowitz, Henry (1857–1924) rabbi; born in Pittsburgh, Pa. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati and Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, he was one of the first four rabbis ordained in the U.S.A. (1883). Rabbi of Rodeph Scholem Synagogue in Philadelphia (1892–1922) and founder of the Jewish Chautauqua Society (1893), he also wrote popular religious literature.
