Gurtuev, Bert Izmailovich
Born Oct. 25 (Nov. 7), 1910, in the village of Aksu. Soviet Balkar poet. Member of the CPSU since 1939. Born into the family of a poor herder. Gurtuev published his first works in 1928. His collections of verse, include Red Voices (1935), Clear Morning (1958), Bright Vistas (I960, in Russian), and Among Friends (1963). The narrative poem The Mowers appeared in 1958. Many of his verses are dedicated to the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and to the building of communism. He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and several medals.
