Bertrand, Joseph Louis François


Born Mar. 11, 1822, in Paris; died there Apr. 3,1900. French mathematician. Member of the Academy of Sciences in Paris (1856). Professor (1862) at the Collège de France.

In particular, Bertrand established certain specific criteria for the convergence of number series as well as one theorem in the theory of groups. He was the author of mathematics textbooks for secondary schools and colleges.
