Besterman, Theodore Nathaniel
Born Nov. 18, 1904. British bibliographer. Besterman’s principal work is A World Bibliography of Bibliographies (vols. 1–2, London, 1939–40; 4th ed., vols. 1–5, Lausanne, 1965–66). The work listed more than 100,000 bibliographical indexes in many languages, dating from the 15th century to the present time. Besterman is director of the Voltaire Institute and Museum (located at Les Délices, near Geneva); he has published Voltaire’s correspondence (vols. 1–107, 1953–65). G. G.
