Beta Spectroscopy

    0.01 sec.
Beta Spectroscopy

the study of the energy distribution of beta particles (positrons or electrons) released by radioactive nuclei during beta decay and of discrete spectra of conversion electrons. The energy distribution of beta particles is called the beta spectrum. Its investigation is conducted by means of a beta spectrometer, by which the form of a spectrum and its upper limit (that is, the maximum energy of the electrons or positrons released during beta decay) are determined.

In many cases the study of beta spectra aids in determining the pattern of decay of radioactive nuclei.
