Manufactures include transportation equipment, asphalt, pools and spas, and electronic products; there is metal processing. Bettendorf's growth in the late 20th cent. led to its displacing East Moline East Moline , city (1990 pop. 20,147), Rock Island co., NW Ill., a suburb of Moline, on the Mississippi River; inc. 1907. Bridges connect it with the Illinois cities of Rock Island and Moline; the three communities and neighboring Bettendorf, Iowa, are known as the Quad Cities.

Expanding its eastern Iowa growth, the $161 million Ascentra Credit Union of Bettendorf, Iowa, said it is in the process of completing a merger with the $53 Members Choice Community CU of Clinton, Iowa.
Yet, the majestic site of The Abbey in Bettendorf, Iowa, its original design as a monastery for an order of cloistered nuns, and its subsequent renovation into a luxury hotel proved the perfect foundations for establishing a unique treatment center environment.
