Five chemicals in raisins--oleanolic acid, oleanolic aldehyde, betulin, betulinic acid, and 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-furfural--seem to be responsible for this effect.
Scientists at the University of Illinois at Chicago have discovered that a drug known as betulinic acid may prove effective in treating malignant melanoma.
