Bezzenberger, Adalbert

Bezzenberger, Adalbert 

Born Apr. 14, 1851, in Kassel; died Oct. 31, 1922, in Königsberg. German philologist and archaeologist. Doctor of philosophy (1874); became professor at the University at Königsberg in 1880. One of the founders of Baltic philology.

Bezzenberger wrote numerous works devoted to the study of Baltic languages and published written documents from the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1877, Bezzenberger founded the journal Beiträge zur Kunde der indogermanischen Sprachen, which merged in 1907 with the journal Zeitschrift für vergleichende Sprachforschungen auf dem Gebiete der indogermanischen Sprachen.
