Bhagalpur

Bhagalpur (bä`gəlpr`), city (1991 pop. 260,119), Bihar state, NE India, on the Ganges River. It is a district administrative center and an agricultural market, with road and rail connections. The city is noted for its silk, fabric weaving, and rice and sugar milling. Bhagalpur Univ. and the remains of Buddhist monasteries are in the city.
