Bhagalpur (bä`gəlp r`), city (1991 pop. 260,119), Bihar state, NE India, on the Ganges River. It is a district administrative center and an agricultural market, with road and rail connections. The city is noted for its silk, fabric weaving, and rice and sugar milling.
