BhubaneshwarCity (pop., 2001 prelim.: 647,302), capital of Orissa, eastern India. Its history from the 3rd century BC is represented in nearby archaeological remains. From the 5th to the 10th century AD it was the provincial capital of many Hindu dynasties. 6 Hindustan Times said that right-wing local Hindu activists tore down a mosque in Bhubaneshwar, Gujarat, and converted it into a Hindu temple, causing serious consternation in the community. In addition to the regular coordination meetings, two policy workshops have been held at the UN House in Bhubaneshwar, bringing together key NGOs, government agencies, donors, bilateral agencies and UN organizations to focus on rehabilitation activities.
