Bianki, Vitalii Valentinovich
Born Jan. 30 (Feb. 11), 1894, in St. Petersburg; died June 10, 1959, in Leningrad. Soviet Russian writer. Bianki studied in the natural sciences division of Petrograd University’s department of physics and mathematics. His literary activity began in 1923. Bianki wrote for children, and his charming books open up for them the world of nature and teach them its secrets. His Forest Gazette for Each Year (1st ed., 1928) is an unusual encyclopedia of the life of the forest and its inhabitants.
