radial tire [¦rād·ē·əl ′tīr]
(engineering)
A pneumatic tire constructed with a layer of fabric between the tread and the plies (cords), which run straight across the tire. Also known as radial-ply tire.

It's estimated that most farm tires are bias-ply types and that only about 30% of all farm tires are radials today.
Radial tires were just gaining acceptance in the marketplace, so the traditional snow tire that were placed on the rear wheels for traction -– that is, back when most cars had the drive wheels in the rear -– was a bias-ply tire with the aggressive tread, often with metal “studs” for traction and in the really bad weather, chains.
Since the basic M967 and M969 tankers have the older suspension configuration and wedge-type brake system, keep using the 20-in split rims with the bias-ply tube tires while they are still available in the supply system.
