Big Bog State Recreation Area Location: On Hwy 72, just north of Waskish. Facilities: 31 campsites (26 with electric hookups), 5 winterized camper cabins (2 @di), showers (é), flush toilets (é), picnic aea, picnic shelter (é), self-guided trail (1 mile), hiking trail (.5 miles), snowmobile trails (10 miles), swimming beach, fishing pier (é), boat ramp, horseshoe pit, interpretive exhibits, nature store. Activities: Camping, lake and river fishing, swimming, birdwatching, hiking, snowmobiling. Special Features: Park's 500-square-mile peat bog is the largest in the lower 48 states. The area includes such features as ovoid islands, water tracks, and rare species of orchids and birds unique to peat bogs.
