Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge Address: 61389 Hwy 434 Lacombe, LA 70445 Phone: 985-882-2000; Fax: 985-882-9133; Web: www.fws.gov/bigbranchmarsh Established: 1994. Location: 15 miles north of New Orleans, on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Facilities: Visitor center, viewing sites, trails, boat ramp. Activities: Boating, canoeing, fishing, hiking, bicycling, hunting, wildlife watching, educational programs, interpretive tours. Special Features: The marshes provide spawning and nursery habitat for a number of fresh and saltwater species, including shrimp, crabs, redfish, trout, bass and catfish. Habitats: 17,094 acres of pine flatwoods, oak rides, and coastal marsh of the shoreline of Lake Pontchatrain. Access: Daylight hours year round.
