Big Cypress Tree State Park Location: Off US 45E in the flood plain of the Middle Fork of the Obion River in west Tennessee. Facilities: Picnic areas, playground, nature trail (é), playfield. Activities: Hiking, guided nature tours (by appointment). Special Features: The area is named for a champion bald cypress tree. Once the largest and oldest bald cypress in the United States and the largest tree of any species east of the Mississippi River, the tree was killed in 1976 when a lightning bolt struck it. Park is located within 330-acre Big Cypress Tree State Natural Area.
