Big Shoals State Park Location: On County Road 135, 1 mile northeast of US 41 in White Springs. Facilities: Picnic areas, pavilion, restrooms, nature trails (33 miles), bicycle trails, horseback trails. Activities: Kayaking and canoeing, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, hunting (with restrictions), birding, wildlife viewing. Special Features: Park features largest whitewater rapids in Florida. When the water level is around 60 feet mean sea level, the Big Shoals rapids are rated Class III. For much of the year, the water is too low to create rapids, but the riverbed and banks reveal overhangs, small caves, sandbars, and an abundance of wildlife. Limestone bluffs that rise 80 feet above the banks of the Suwanee River provide scenic vistas not found anywhere else in Florida.
