Big Spring State Park

Big Spring State Park

Location: 5 miles southwest of New Germantown, along PA 274.
Facilities: Picnic areas, restrooms, hiking trail, snowmobile trailhead.
Activities: Hiking, picnicking, snowmobiling.
Special Features: Located on the side of Conococheague Mountain, park provides access to the hiking trail in Tuscarora State Forest. Park also serves as the trailhead for an extensive snowmobile trail system, providing parking, restrooms, and trail access. A short loop trail in Big Spring leads to a partially completed railroad tunnel, with historic interpretation at the trailhead.

Big Spring State Park

Location: 100 miles west of Abilene, at the southern tip of the High Plains caprock escarpment, within the city limits of Big Spring.
Facilities: 8 developed campsites, group camp, picnic areas, group pavilion, day-use group facility, nature trail (é), scenic drive, interpretive center, park store, playground, restrooms.
Activities: Camping, hiking, biking, nature study.
Special Features: Interpretive center includes an Indian artifact display and assorted fossils found in the area.

A classic example of the absorption model is the Ozark National Scenic Riverways (authorized in 1964) that contains three former Missouri state parks, including the notable Big Spring State Park of nearly 6,000 acres.
Many cattle drovers went past Big Spring State Park as seen from carvings they made on these rocks.
